Getting Ready

Spotlight is our new series of articles to help you Step Up and get to where you belong in your pursuit of a new career.

Stephanie will share some of her thoughts on how to do a great interview.

Step Up has recently experienced a number of questions and comments raised by both clients and candidates about interview etiquette. Check out some top tips from our team. They may sound obvious but they are especially helpful as reminders….

Map your journey to the location – how will you get there? How long will it take? Do you need to factor in walking time?

Turn up on time - this means being a bit early, arriving relaxed. Make sure to double check the address and know the name of the person you should be looking for.

Look smart! Dress smart casual and reflect the brand or culture of the company you are interviewing with.

The Interview

In this second part, we talk about top tips once you are ‘in the interviewing room’…..

Ask insightful questions - this means being curious about the role and asking relevant questions. Do your homework and understand your employer and the opportunity.

Talk about your own achievements – rather than what you have achieved as a team, talk about yourself rather than ‘we achieved our monthly budget’ (as example).

Be authentic – remember, first interviews should be about seeing if there’s a genuine connection and fit between client and candidate. Its best to leave salary negotiations for later.

Wrap Up

In our final post of this three part series, we wrap up top tips once you have completed your interview….

Your goal as a candidate is to get to the next round - this means selling yourself in, closing the deal and finding out next steps.

Follow up after the interview – jot down what types of questions you were asked, how you responded, and any follow up questions you many have. Send a thank you email to the interviewer as a courtesy.

Feedback – follow up with your Recruiter and give them honest feedback. Clear communication is key throughout the entire process. Always let your Recruiter know if you are interviewing with other companies or looking at other opportunities.
